The icon image of Christ comes framed under glass in its original wooden frame.

HISTORY:
The history of Brunner's photograph of the Holy Face of Jesus dates to 1931 when another photographer, Giuseppe Enrie took photographs of the famous Shroud of Turin during a public exposition of the shroud.
As Giuseppe Brunner was renowned in Italy and Europe for his technique of transforming photographs into works of art he was commissioned by the Vatican to work upon Enrie's photograph and artistically retouch the face from the shroud to make it more accessible to the public and talso to create an official version of the face of Christ approved by the Vatican and Catholic Church.
After intensive work, the portrait of the Holy Face of Jesus obtained the highest awards in Italy and in the world.
Brunner's transfigured face became the most widespread icon that the Catholic Church approved in modern times and he was made a Pontifucal photographer.
At that time the Cardinal Ildefonso Schuster named a new church in Milan "The Holy Face" church which was built to solemnize the Holy Year of the Redemption. He offered this church a copy of this same image received from the photographer Brunner.
The Cardinal also offered a copy to the Blessed Sister Maria Pierina De Micheli. On the first Friday of Lent in 1936, Sister Maria Pierina De Micheli reported a vision in which Jesus told her: “I will that My Face, which reflects the intimate pains of My Spirit, the suffering and the love of My Heart, be more honored. He who meditates upon Me, consoles Me”.
She later received further visions of both Jesus and Mary who urged her to make a medal with the Holy Face of Jesus as represented in Brunner's image. This became known as the Holy Face Medal. On one side the medal bears a replica of the Holy Face image from Shroud of Turin and an inscription based on Psalm 66:2: "Illumina, Domine, vultum tuum super nos", ("May, O Lord, the light of Thy countenance shine upon us". In another vision, Sister Maria Pierina reported that Jesus told her: “Every time my Face is contemplated I will pour out my love into the heart of those persons, and by means of my Holy Face the salvation of many souls will be obtained”.
This Holy Face Medal has become an important symbol for Catholics to show their devotion to Christ.
In an interview about his work, Brunner declared: "If this face of Jesus looks beautiful, of regal majesty, of infinite sweetness, suggestive and powerful, nothing has been created or attributed to me. This is so because it must have been the son of the purest of the virgins, Mary of Nazareth, because that was to be Jesus! "
The image of the Holy Face based upon th Shroud of Turin is also known as an Acheiropoieta (Medieval Greek: ἀχειροποίητα, "made without hand"; singular acheiropoieton) — also called Icons Made Without Hands (and variants) — are Christian icons which are said to have come into existence miraculously, not created by a human.
